Let Preparation Be Your Separation

Meet Mi Duole team member: Jason Lang
One of the sayings I live by, “Let preparation by your separation.” I get crap from the team for being overly prepared for things, and writing out my diagrams and nutrition plans for races. I really think coming into something prepared is one of my superpowers. I would much rather be way over prepared for something then underprepared, and I feel like that gives me separation.
There are no shortcuts in cycling…you can’t really cheat. The way to get better is to do the work. The equipment helps a little but at the end of the day watts are king and the way to get more watts is consistent work. There is also a lot to learn and you learn those things by time in the saddle and putting yourself in a position to learn and grow. No shortcuts.
It provides a way to stretch/push yourself mentally and physically. It allows you to explore your limits and then figure out a way to move past them. The endorphin high you get when overcoming something hard is so addicting. I love when your body is screaming at you to stop and you learn to push a little deeper. Your body is trying to resist change and stay comfortable but you can force it to change for the better and get stronger…and that's amazing.
You get better at cycling by performing consistently year over year. It's a long game. It's important to be able to zoom out and not measure week by week and month by month but more year over year.
